Category in dressage and show jumping on women’s request

The Qatar Equestrian Federation and Al Shaqab have decided to include a category for women in dressage and jumping in the Hathab equestrian competition series which will run for six months each year.
“This is something new that the federation has decided to do this year because we have received lots of requests from the ladies in Qatar and hence we have decided to give them this opportunity,” stressed Omar al Mannai, Commercial Manager of Al Shaqab equestrian centre.
There has been a new found interest among women to take up horse riding as a sport in Qatar and as such the equestrian centres have been receiving requests from youngsters who feel encouraged to take show their talent.
Qatar’s Olympian rider Ali al Rumaihi, who participated at the Rio Olympics in 2016, welcomed the move saying, “Equestrian is one of the few sports where a man and a woman can compete and show their skills in a category at the same time. It is kind of unique and given the Qatari culture and tradition we have decided to provide them a platform to hone their talent.”
Assuring of more
encouragement, Mannai added, “Next year, we may also increase the number of events in the dressage category.”
Qatar’s Maryam al-Subaiey recently broke new ground as a female jockey competing in the ‘Thoroughbred Handicap’ at the Racing and Equestrian Club in Doha earlier this year.
