Qatar Looking to Compete for World Men

The 2017 World Men's Handball Championship saw today its first fame played between title holders France and hosts Brazil, with the champions winning comfortably 31-16.

France is considered the overwhelming favorites to win the title again this year. They have won four of the last five world championships. They are in Group A along with Brazil, Russia, Poland, Japan and Norway.

Qatar is also in with a shout, having won silver in the last edition. Qatar will also look to avenge its 22-25 loss at the final from France, especially given this is nation's golden age in handball. It is the third consecutive time that they participate in the World Championship and sixth in their history. Brazil hasn't been the most kind of places to the Qatari handball team, having lost 22-34 to Germany in Rio 2016 Olympics. Qatar is in a strong group D with Sweden, Denmark, Egypt, Argentina and Bahrain. It is worth noting that won Gold in Rio Olympics, beating France 28-26.
